There are two types of solar heating panels. Which is best?

Solar heating panels come in two types: Evacuated tubes andflat plate panels. Generally both systems work very well in the UK. Evacuated tubes have better performance, especially during the winter months, but many people prefer the aesthesis of the flat panels.

What changes to myhome are required with this type of installation?

Updating of your current heating system may be required. Our solar consultants inspection of your system will outline what changes are required and will he discuss this with you.

How many days will the installation take?

Normally disruption is kept to a minimum, but usually 2/4 days, depending on what work is required to update your system.

What area of roof space is required?

Most UK homes have enough roof space for this type of solar technology.

Will this type of installation require any on going maintenance?

Solar heating panels do require a service every 3 years to check system pressure and PH levels of the solar fluid. This can easily arranged with us so you won’t have to worry about remembering.

How long will this type of system last?

A good quality and well serviced system can easily last 30years.

What government assistance is available?

Government incentives include a 5% VAT rate with a £400 grant to all homeowners in England and Wales.

FAQ's about PV solar panels

How do the PV panels produce electricity?

The science bit is that photons from the sun are converted to electrons within the PV solar cell and are channeled to produce an electric current.

How many PV solar panels will I require?

The minimum amount of panels to create a 1KW system is 6 collectors. We can tailor a system for you. Our solar consultants can discuss this with you during a home survey/inspection.

What space is required inside my home?

Very little. We have never been restricted by space inside ahome.

What area of roof space is required?

Our basic 1KW system requires 2.6 x 3.0 metres. Larger systems are available.

Will this type of system require any on going maintenance?

No. This is a fit and forget technology.

How long will this type of system last?

A good system can be expected perform well for 30+ years. We also know of PV solar panels installed in the 1960s which are still working fine.

What government assistance is available?

Different types of solar installation services

Evacuated tubes installations: These are designed for heating and are the most efficient of all technologies where performance is concerned. These vacuum flask tubes collect heat from the sun where it is then transferred to a super- efficient hot water tank ready for your use - a popular technology for homes where high performance is essential.

Flat solar panels installations: These are also designed for heating and are often chosen for their aesthetical value. Flat panels can be integrated into your roof like a Velux window. Again the heat is collected and transferred to a super- efficient hot water tank - a popular technology for homes where aesthetics are to be considered.

PV solar panels installations: This technology is different from solar heating because it generates electricity to be used within your home. At times when surplus energy is produced, this will be sold back to energy companies through a feed-in (to the National Grid) tariff, for which you will be credited. This is a popular technology for its longevity and ability to use all the energy which is produced.

Solar panels for swimming pools: Solar energy is just another type of fuel. This means you can spend more time enjoying your pool and less time worrying about the costs of heating it! We have installed many pool installations, even in our UK climate, with great results to their owners.
