" Solar collectors come in two main types, (1) evacuated solar tubes and (2) flat plate solar panels work by gathering energy radiated by the suns rays which are then converted to heat contributing to your hot water. "
We offer different types of solar heating systems including:
Domestic & commercial solar heating panels
A technology for generating clean heat usually installed on the roof, stimulated by strong financial incentives from the government. A solar heating system is a single or combination of multiple panels which trap and move heat to your hot water tank. Space heating can be achieved in certain circumstances. The system will be installed by MCS accredited solar installers as either:
On-roof
In-roof
Flat-roof
Evacuated Tubes
The type of system required for your home depends on many factors, which is why we always survey your home before quoting. This survey is free and without obligation.
Learn more about solar heating panels >>Evacuated solar tubes
Evacuated tubes, commonly known as solar tubes, are the most efficient type solar heating technologys in the UK climate. These domestic solar panels installations for heating water can work all year round, contributing up to 65% of your homes needs, with solar energy which hits your roof everyday of the year.
Learn more about evacuated solar tubes >>Which is best, flat panels or evacuated tubes?
Some home owners prefer the aesthetics of a flat panel, but evacuated tubes are more efficient in the winter months. Both systems work excellently in our UK climate so we offer both flat panels and solar tubes technologies, so you can deciede which is best for yourself.
Renewable Heat Incentive - a solar heating incentive scheme
The renewable heat tariffs have been introduced by the coalition Government to help increase the level of green energy in the UK, which goes towards our legally binding targets of 15% of energy from renewable before 2020.

There are also 2 types of solar heating panels?
Yes, glazed flat plate panels and evacuated solar tubes.
Usually a flat panels salesmen will say his system performs best and a evacuated tubes salemen will say the same. As independent testing has confirmed, evacuated tubes do perform best within the UK climate, however alot of people choose flat panels for aesthetical reasons.
Are solar heating panels suitable for my home?
Most UK homes are suitable for solar panels, but if you have a South /SE/SW or an East/West facing roof area, then yes. Your internal plumbing type and set up will need to be checked for compatibility, but this can be done through our free home survey and quote service.
How exactly do solar heating panels work?
As solar radiation from the sun hits an object, or a solar heating panel, the short wave radiation is converted to long-wave and this accumulated process creates heat, which can then be collected and moved to your hot water cylinder.
Why update my hot water cylinder?
Simply, older copper hot water cylinders run very efficiently when new, but after many years of use, lime-scale reduce's the efficiency dramatically. While we are installing solar panels, we will also install a new modern super-efficient cylinder so you get the most out of your solar panels.
"Adding a solar panel to an old tank would be like converting your car
to LPG and running it on semi flat tyres"
Can solar panels contribute towards central heating?
This depends, in most cases then solar can help to contribute to a central heating, but not all solar installation companies offer this technology. We would need to survey your home to see if our solar heating management system is suitable in your home.
Do solar panels work on cloudy days?
Yes, but this depends on the type and density of cloud cover. Flat panels don't contribute as much as evacuated solar tubes. In a moderate cloud density solar radiation can hit your panels and contribute. In a really heavy density cloud cover, then probably not. Take your solar powered calculator out on a cloudy day. It still works.
What water temperatures can I expect from a solar?
Most of the year your water can be heated to above 60 deg C. On a really hot summers day then 70 - 80 deg C can easily be achieved. The system is designed to never reach above 85 deg C as a safety cut off point.
How long does a solar panel last?
This depends on the type of quality. With a good quality system, it has been developed to easily last 25-30 years.
How long to install a solar panels system?
Two, possibly three days in most cases.
How much will a solar panel system cost?
The cost of a typical installation for a domestic solar heating system depends on many factors. Our solar surveyors will provide you with a tailored options and quotations.
