Feed-in tariffs for your business

The feed-in tariff's scheme guarantees a minimum payment for all electricity generated by solar panels, as well as a separate payment for the excess power exported to the National Grid. These payments are in addition, to the bill savings made by using electricity generated on-site.

  • Photovoltaic solar electricity (PV) roof mounted and stand alone.
  • Wind turbines. Building mounted or free standing.
  • Hydro-electricity stations.
  • Anaerobic digestion systems.
  • Micro combined heat and power (micro CHP).

Using solar panels as an example, you should experience a size-able reduction in your electricity expense and then receive an additional income from your feed-in tariff scheme. The Micro generation Certification Scheme (MCS scheme) certificates micro-generation under 50 KW.

The golden age of cheap energy is over. An investment in solar panels is an investment in your energy future.

How tariffs work

The feed-in tariff are designed so that the average monthly income from your installation will be significantly greater than your monthly loan repayment (with a 25 year loan as an example). The scheme is for these electricity and heat generating micro generation systems, up to an installation size of 5 Mega Watts:

Generation tariff - A set rate paid by your energy supplier for each unit (or kw h) of electricity you generate with micro generation systems. This rate will change each year for later adopters to the scheme (except for the first 2 years), but once you join the scheme, you will continue with the same tariff for the next 20 years. 25 years in the case for pv solar panels.

Energy bill savings - In addition, you will make savings on your bills, because the generating electricity to power your appliances, means you do not have to buy as much electricity from your energy supplier. The costs saved will vary, but depending how much of the electricity you use on site and the size of system you install.

Feed-in tariffs for solar heating

In March 2011, the UK Government announced the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme. The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) were designed to provide financial support to encourage home owners, communities and business to switch from using fossil fuels for heating, to micro generation systems such as wood fuel and solar heating panels.

The RHI scheme aims to support all levels of renewable heat generation including commercial projects open to anyone, including households, landlords, businesses, farmers, schools and hospitals. The scheme will give you a guaranteed feed-in tariff style payment which will help towards the investment cost of your preferred micro generation technology.

Examples of renewable heat systems covered by the scheme are:

By 2020, there will be an estimated 13,000 solar panels installations by business and 110,000 in the commercial and public sector, supplying 25% of the heat demand in these sectors while creating 150,000 jobs.
