We are dependent on others for our energy supplies due to the squandering of the resources we once had, and now we're having to face the reality that flicking a switch may no longer turn on the lights.

We must deal with the most imminent threat, and that is peak oil.

If the eco movement is putting renewables first, I'm not sure this is based on more than a hunch, since again the reality seems to be rather less coherent.

Even if, we accept, then environmentalists have it right, since we can hardly address the longer term threat of climate change when the lights keep going out, we have to queue to get petrol rations, and a large proportion of people are living in fuel poverty.
