There is a point with all of this. Humans is fundamentally irresponsible. They care not one bit how their behaviour affects the natural world around them. Take for instance how we continue to wipe out entire species of animals every month.
If I was not human, I certainly would not believe humans were worth saving. Well, except for perhaps a handful that could be kept in a zoo or observed in a lab.
If 9.5 billion people were just to have: food, clothing, fuel and housing i.e. the basics, then there will still be climate change - it would just take longer to use up all the worlds resources, that is all. So, there no escaping our inevitable demise!
Humanities and other species only hope are peak oil. That the world, resources will deplete quicker than we all expected, making modern lifestyles impossible to sustain. Neither option is a reasonable option, but with the second option, at least humanity and other species will survive longer term.
