Humanity is about to have it is industrial wings clipped. Too many people taking from a finite resource.

Another way of looking at it, we had enough oil reserves to create a long term sustainable existence, but like children with a bag full of sweets, we gorged ourselves and now we have to live with peak oil problems. What is peak oil?

Peak oil means we have drained oil reserves so much that over a remarkably short period. The last of the reserves will be depleted quicker, and our modern civilisation will quickly be eroded then eventually crumble.

Oil over the next 10 - 20 years will become as valuable as water in a desert. Would you sell the last of your water in a survival situation?

I prefer to look at it like this.

We are going to be cast back to pre-industrial living because we squandered our limited black, gold resource on fighting each other. If we were true, intelligent species, then we would have known this oily resource was limited and used it to find alternatives for the benefit of the human race and future generations.

Humans are selfish, and now we are beginning to see that our policy of growth on a finite planet size was not particularly knowledgeable. This means future generations and the rest of the biosphere will suffer, for our short term thinking.

The rest of this century will be human kind fighting each other for the last of the oil (ironically fighting over the last unspoilt place on the planet (Arctic), and the drying up fresh water.

We have all lived through the golden age of humanity, time to start appreciating that fact.

The bankers who own the US Federal Reserve (yes it is private!) are trying to control the world by controlling the currency. They will soon call for worldwide banking control and that will be attempting to create world government.

The Rothschilds and Rockefeller are trying to engineer politics. Gordon Brown took advice from Rothschild just before "his" bailout scheme, and now Nat Rothschild is doing his best to keep the conservatives out of power because they need us to all have ID cards etc. We already have the technology to enable everyone not to work, but the elite bankers want us to keep spending so that they are rich.

When the world finally can not support the amount of people on they will live on in luxury while up to 80% of the population will not survive.

Fascism is taking hold, and this credit crunch have been deliberately timed with the increase in fuel prices, police are getting super tough, and the government is trying to take away as much freedom as possible so we can not fight back. The best way to stop them is to make them irrelevant; make your own hot water, generate your own electricity, do not accept their credit and do not use a bank if you can get away without it. I am getting solar water tubes, and PV panels (after paying off credit!).

One day, country's like russia will declare that it can no longer afford to sell its reserves of energy. With every country sucking its resources up like children with straws, it will soon realise that what it has left is needed for its own citizens, and selling it away is no longer in the interests of the russian state. Then we are buggered!

The future isn't what it used to be.

How can our society keep expanding? Our society is based on growth, but just like a disease, expansion can only lead to destroying its host, or in our case the earth. It's time we re evaluated our place on this planet, recognise that growth cannot be our mantra forever and that we are the first generation to limit our growth for the benefit of future generations and the rest of nature we are determined to destroy, for the short term benefit.

The way I see it, whether you think its been and gone or coming, Peak oil is here, in our lifetimes. Consumption has outstripped availability global, and we are all happily reminiscing and hoping life will be as enjoyable as remembered.

Wake up call time, with china and India dipping their thirsty straw into the oil barrel. Peak oil will come a lot quicker than anyone expected, and just like dippy hippy.

I agree that russia and Saudi will pull our plug and say the resources we have left are needed for our own citizens. Sorry we can not sell it anymore.

We can not fight them for it because we wont have the energy, so we will all see one day and wish we had bought those solar panels and created a less energy dependent society when we had the chance.

Yesterday, a "highly placed source" in Moscow was reported as saying the Kremlin intends to turn off the oil export pipeline to the EU on Monday. If this is true, we are entering a whole new ball game in what has come to be called "energy security". Even if the report proves false, the west should be on red alert about energy export weaponry.

We have technologies to rid ourselves of the need for gas. We do next to nothing. Energy efficiency is low priority, and renewable generators languish in cottage industries. Energy dependency could turn a new cold war red hot.

Peak oil has been and gone or darned close to it. (Even the giant energy companies do not know the answer to this)

If peak oil has been reached or close to, countries who we buy our energy from will start to hold back their supplies (well would not you)

The energy crunch is on the horizon, better start preparing because like the credit crunch, you will not know about it till it is too late.

Do not forget the water wars. As the population keeps growing and getting richer, and global warming changes the climate, experts are warning that unless something is done. Billions more will suffer lack of water - precipitating hunger, disease, migration and ultimately conflict.

The water crisis is an expression of the environmental catastrophe of human overexploitation. This is the age the Anthropocene, because the natural system has been so fundamentally altered by human activity.

I look at all the plastic toys my children have (and there is alot), but now I just think that we have blown our one chance to make humanities civilisation, a long term sustainable thing on mcdonalds free toys. As peak oil begins to bite, we can look at all the plastic we made and smile. We should have used our resources wisely, but we did not. What is they say about hindsight?
