Like many rural people, we rely on the expensive forms of energy for heating and power and are constantly seeking ways to reduce our costs. The escalation of energy costs is inevitable which will not be matched by our pensions and the need for alterations, when compared to previous days.

We first invested in an evacuated solar tube system for hot water, and now we have installed a 2.1kW pv panels system to generate electricity. Financially this became a real attraction this year with the introduction of the feed-in tariffs scheme. The return is simply better than having the money in the bank. I can recommend that everyone who has capital to look at this from an investment point of view let alone long term green energy potential.

We did our research and do not believe that we have been short changed on any of the material for our solar panel system we now have.

We are delighted then with our new Affordable PV system which was installed six months ago, well ahead of the deadline we requested. The sub zero temperatures did not put off our installers, they did a admirable job and cleaned up well within the two days.

On sunny days when they are earning, the PV cells add considerable character to our 1960’s bungalow alongside the solar water heating panels. he sunny side roof space currently unoccupied by cells seem to demand more of them; otherwise the area is being wasted, so we are considering having more to maximise our space.

We installed the solar panels for hot water some years ago and hardly used the oil for hot water throughout the summer. Now the pV panels are their earning their keep, deriving a higher rate of interest than any bank can offer – and the income is indexed linked for a quarter of a century, so bring on the sun and quarterly payments from EDF Energy.
